Conference Dates

The Organising Committee invites submission of abstracts for oral and poster presentations on the following themes:

  • Injury Prevention in Specific Population Groups e.g. Indigenous, children, older persons
  • Injury Exposures, Mechanisms, Settings and Products e.g. alcohol, workplace, road traffic, falls, fires
  • Injury Settings e.g. water safety, workplace, road traffic
  • Intentional Injury e.g. suicide, domestic violence
  • Injury Prevention Policy, Programs and Partnerships e.g. Safe Communities, Australian National Injury Prevention Plan 2004-2014
  • Trauma Care, Rehabilitation and Injury Outcomes
  • Injury Data Systems
  • Medico-Legal Death Investigation, Forensic Science and Injury Prevention

MODE OF PRESENTATION

Presentations may be made in one of the following modes:

1. Oral Paper Presentation
A 12 minute presentation with 2 minutes for questions.

2. Short Oral Paper Presentation
A 5 minute (5 slides maximum) presentation and no questions.

3. Poster Presentation
Presenters of selected posters will be given the additional opportunity to describe their poster at an “oral poster” presentation; i.e. a 3 minute (3 slides maximum) presentation and no questions.

All posters will be on display for the duration of the conference.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

To submit an abstract, please:

1. Prepare an abstract of no more than 250 words. The abstract should follow one of the following outlines:

A. Research

- Background
- Aims
- Methods
- Results
- Discussion and Conclusions

OR

B. Policy and Practice

- Context
- Objectives
- Key Messages
- Discussion and Conclusions

2. Complete the information form.
3. Complete the biography form for the presenting author of no more than 100 words.
4. Student presenters may elect to be considered for a Student Bursary (see details below).

Abstract submission will close at 5pm on Monday 10th November 2008.

ABSTRACT ASSESSMENT PROCESS

1. Abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee.
2. Acceptance of an abstract will be based on relative merit and the degree to which it meets the aims of the Conference program.
3. No more than one abstract per first author will be accepted.
4. The Committee's decision is final.

Authors will be notified of their abstract results by Thursday 15th January 2009.

All presenters must be registered delegates and have paid the conference registration fee.

Accepted abstracts will be published on the conference website and in the Conference proceedings.

ABSTRACT ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

The criteria for evaluating abstracts includes, but is not limited, to the following:

- Contains new information
- Clarity of abstract
- Scientific merit/policy relevance
- Contribution to the theme/s of the Conference
- Interest to the audience

STUDENT BURSARIES

The AIPN will award three Student Bursaries to the value of $1000. Winners of the student prizes will be announced at the closing ceremony. To be eligible you must:

1. Be a full-time student. Evidence of full-time student status will be required.
2. Indicate on your application form that you wish to be considered.
3. Have an abstract accepted for a full oral presentation.
4. Have paid your conference registration fee.
